Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675)
Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675), considered one of the most important authors of the golden age of Dutch painting. He is known under various names: Jan Vermeer (Jan is the diminutive of Johannes), Vermeer, Delft, or Johannes van der Meer. He specialised in everyday interior scenes of bourgeois domestic life.
Vermeer excelled in the use of light, texture, perspective (perhaps he used a camera obscura) and transparent colours. He took care to ensure that the colours were harmonious. In his works you can feel the silence of the characters in some intimate moments of their lives.
