Description

High quality Reproduction made of reconstituted marble (marble powder and Cronolita). Aging patina with natural stones, to give the piece an antique look.
Bas-relief representing six historians and orators from Ancient Greece:
Herodotus (484 BC – 425 BC), considered the “Father of History”, who was the first to produce a rationalised account of human acts. His work covers the war between the Persians and the Greeks and the history of the countries that intervened (Persia, Egypt, etc.)
Thucydides (460 BC-396 BC) narrated the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta. He is considered the first to develop a “scientific” historiography, due to his exhaustive work in collecting evidence and analysing history based on causality.
Xenophon (431 BC – 354 BC), a chronicler of his time, his best known work is Anabasis, which recounts the failed expedition of the Ten Thousand, a campaign of Greek mercenaries in support of a pretender to the Persian throne, in which Xenophon himself participated.
Lysias (458 BC – 380 BC), an orator and logographer (speechwriter), is credited with 233 speeches, of which only about thirty have been preserved, most of them of a judicial nature, allegations in public trials before the courts.
Isocrates (436 BC – 338 BC), an orator, politician and logographer, ran an oratory school in Athens and wrote political and judicial speeches on commission.
Demosthenes (384 BC – 322 BC), an Athenian politician, orator and logographer, actively opposed the hegemony of the Macedonian kings, first against Philip II and then against Alexander the Great.
