The bas-relief we present is a reproduction of a neoclassical original representing the Rapture of Persephone by the God Hades.Persephone, daughter of Demeter was abducted by Hades and taken to the underworld. As a consequence, the flowers and green vegetation disappeared from the earth. After her mother Demeter mediated before the god Hades, he agreed to let her rise to the surface of the earth for half the year, but she had to return the rest of the time. As a result, mythology tells us that there are seasons. When Persephone returns to the underworld, winter ensues.
