Antinous was a young man of great beauty, favourite and presumably lover of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. Many portraits of him have been preserved to the present day. From the Renaissance to the present day, Antinous has been widely represented in art, especially in sculpture, and his enigmatic figure has captured the attention of numerous artists.
