The sculpture shown here is a bust of the Roman politician and military man Mark Antony.Mark Antony was a collaborator of Julius Caesar, whom he helped to impose himself on the Roman oligarchy. After Caesar’s assassination he ruled in a triumvirate. He finally confronted Octavian Augustus by establishing an alliance with Egypt. The romance between Cleopatra, Ptolemaic queen of Egypt and Mark Antony is mythical.
