Recreation of a bust of the emperor Marcus Aurelius made from original busts from the 2nd century AD on display in the Archaeological Museum in Istanbul and the British Museum in London.

The Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius (161 AD – 180 AD) is known as one of the “Five Good Emperors”. A follower of the philosophical trend of Stoicism, he bequeathed us a masterful work of philosophical reflections on self-knowledge and good government: the “Meditations”, written directly in campaign.

“The happiness of the ambitious depends on the actions of others; that of the voluptuous, on his passions; that of the prudent, on his own actions”.

“Our life is what our thoughts create.”

“Whenever you are about to point out a defect in another person, ask yourself the following question: what defect in me resembles the one I am about to criticise?”
