Titus Flavius Vespasianus (9 AD – 79 AD) was the founder of the Flavian dynasty, one of the most successful and active politicians and rulers of ancient Rome. He came to power after a civil war following the death of Nero, and his rule was notable for the financial reforms that cleaned up the economy of the empire. He was succeeded by his son Titus.
