Reproduction of Apollo of Ampurias from the 2nd century BC.
This head with its delicate features is a copy on the same scale as an original in white Pentelic marble. It was initially catalogued as a representation of the goddess Aphrodite, but was finally attributed to the god Apollo. This god symbolises harmony, light and unity. He is usually depicted as a young man of ideal beauty, with a beardless face and long, abundant hair, which is sometimes tied back.
