Description
Model of the Castle of Manzanares El Real, made of marble reconstituted with resin.
Measurements: 16 x 12 x 8 cm.
Castle of Manzanares El Real, Madrid. This Madrid building represents the ideal of the stately fortress that prevailed in the second half of the 15th century and is one of the jewels of the last Hispanic civil Gothic style, although with Italian Renaissance influences.
Its construction was begun by the first son of the Marquis of Santillana, Duke of Infantado, but it was thanks to his son that, after 1475, it was completed under the direction of Juan Guas. This is a playful construction consisting of a first enclosure of lesser height which is accessed through a gate flanked by two cylindrical turrets.
Inside, there is a superb square-shaped building with cubes at the corners and an inner courtyard. In addition to the purely defensive elements, there are other elements of a courtly nature, such as the exquisite gallery raised over the overhanging southern parapet, with a parapet and columns carved with diamond-shaped points or a network of diamonds.
