Moais are sculptures from Easter Island (Rapanui), in the Pacific Ocean, which were made of volcanic rock between 700 and 1600, although some archaeologists believe they are much older. According to indications, around the 15th century, the quarry seems to have been abandoned suddenly, leaving some unfinished moai, and the erected moai were knocked down. It is not known exactly what caused the collapse of the Rapa Nui civilisation.
