An adaptation of the famous statue of Achilles dying, located in the garden Achilleion, in Corfu (Greece). It depicts Achilles wounded by an arrow in his heel, his weak point.  This statue was sculpted by Ernst Herter in 1884 to decorate the Achilleion Palace, built on the island of Corfu for the Austro-Hungarian Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria, the famous Sissi, who wanted a palace dedicated to the Greek hero Achilles.

The most famous of the Greek heroes, great-grandson of Zeus, grandson of Eanor, son of Peleus and the Titaness Thetis, a sea goddess. According to the poets after the Iliad, Thetis anointed her son with ambrosia, and then held him over the fire, although it is also famous that he was submerged in the Styx to make him invulnerable except for a single weak point, his heel, by which he was held. Achilles, the personification of the Greek warrior, was depicted as a young man with a slender figure, Herculean forms, strong, agile, with frizzy hair and a beautiful face.
