Framed mask of Marcus Aurelius (121 AD – 180 AD), a Stoic philosopher, and one of the so-called “Five Good Emperors”, ruled the Roman Empire as co-emperor alongside Lucius Verus from 161 to 180 AD. One of the most notable representatives of the Stoic school, his best-known work is Meditations, written during military campaigns as a diary, in which he reflected his thought focused on the constant pursuit of virtue and wisdom and their application in daily life.

This phrase we reproduce, taken from the thoughts of Marcus Aurelius, is a good example of the teachings of Stoic philosophy. According to these, one must distinguish between what is under our control—our thoughts, behaviors, attitudes, etc.—and what we cannot change, such as external circumstances, encouraging the cultivation of inner strength to face and overcome difficulties.
