Head – Apollo of Belvedere, reproduction of a fragment from the full-body sculpture of the Apollo of Belvedere, named after its discovery in the late 15th century during the Renaissance when it was displayed in the Belvedere Courtyard of the Vatican. It is assumed to be a copy of an original in bronze attributed to the Greek sculptor Leochares.
Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto, and the twin brother of the virgin huntress Artemis. In Greek and Roman mythology, Apollo is one of the most important and multifaceted Olympian gods. Apollo is the god of light and the sun, truth and prophecy; the protector of medicine and healing; the patron god of music, poetry, and the arts. His main sanctuaries were in Delos and Delphi, whose oracle was consulted for centuries for inspiration. He was often depicted as the ideal kurios (beardless youth), carrying his attributes such as the lyre, bow and arrows, and accompanied by symbolic animals such as the wolf, snake, and raven.
Decorating with reproductions of sculptures depicting characters from classical mythology, like this bust of Apollo, is an elegant and timeless way to add a touch of sophistication to the spaces in our homes. Sculptures inspired by ancient, Renaissance, or neoclassical art stand out especially in our gardens and patios, transforming them into a unique and inspiring corner.
Decorating with works of art serves to bring beauty not only to our surroundings but also to the soul, enriching it with meaning and bringing the legacy of other cultures and ancient civilizations into our homes.
