Reproduction of the original work The Young Hercules by the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770 -1844) representing Hercules in his infancy fighting with two snakes.

Hercules was a hero and demigod, son of the god Zeus and a mortal woman, Alcmene. The goddess Hera, wife of Zeus, jealous of Hercules’ birth, sent two snakes to his cradle to kill him, but the little boy rose up and killed the two snakes with his bare hands, demonstrating his legendary strength.

On the base are depicted the twelve Labours of Hercules, which were entrusted to him by King Eurystheus as impossible tasks that the demigod was nevertheless able to complete: the lion of Nemea, the hydra of Lerna, the hind of Mount Cerineus, the boar of Erimanthus, the birds of the lagoon Stymphalia, the stables of Augias, the bull of Crete, the mares of Diomedes, the girdle of Hippolyta, the bulls of Geryon, the apples of the garden of the Hesperides and the last one, bringing Cerberus, the guard dog of the gates of Hell, to Eurystheus.
