Reproduction of a Roman statuette of a Lar god. He is wearing a short jiton with a cloak knotted at the waist. Head girded with a diadem of palmettes. He holds a horn of plenty in his left hand. The right hand is raised, in which he is probably holding a rhyton. Dated to the 1st-2nd centuries AD. Found in Lora del RÃo (Seville).
The Lares, in Roman mythology, are the protective divinities of the home. In Roman houses they were worshipped in lararium, altars located near the hearth, together with the manes, the spirits of the ancestors, and the penates, protective genii.
