Handmade mosaic crafted in the Roman style, representing a vegetal motif with two birds.

Measurements: Height: 35.5 cm. Width: 58.5 cm.

Stone tesserae mosaic. Handmade in Spain.

Mosaics are pictorial works made with small pieces of stone, ceramic, glass, or other similar materials in various shapes and colors, called tesserae, joined together with plaster or other binders to form decorative geometric or figurative compositions.

This mosaic is currently crafted entirely by hand, following the ancient Roman technique of “opus tessellatum,” using cubic stone tesserae.

In its creation, 8 mm tesserae of natural stones and marbles of different colors were used. It is mounted on mortar with a metal structure, ready to be hung on a wall or used as floor tiling.

The decorative motifs of Roman mosaics were very diverse, ranging from geometric figures, images representing human figures and fantastic creatures mainly based on Greco-Roman mythology, scenes of everyday and domestic life, and elements of nature such as trees, gardens, landscapes, and animals.
