This sculpture is an adaptation of the statue of Adonis by the neoclassical Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen. The original is located in the Thorvaldsen Museum in Copenhagen.
Adonis was, in Greek mythology, the son of an incestuous relationship between Princess Myrrha and her father, King Cinyras. Myrrha enclosed her newborn son in the trunk of a tree, where he was found by the goddess Aphrodite. Adonis grew into a beautiful young man, and Aphrodite fell in love with him. After his tragic death in a hunting accident, Aphrodite contended for his return with Persephone, the queen of the underworld, until they agreed that Adonis would spend half the year with Aphrodite in the world of the living and the other half in Hades.
The decoration of our home acquires a unique personality and expression when we incorporate reproductions that express the beauty of art. With statues like these, whether copies of masterpieces from antiquity or the last centuries, such as this sculpture of Adonis, we add a touch of originality and elegance to favorite corners, indoors or outdoors. In the living room, these figures can become central pieces that attract attention and stimulate conversation, while in the garden, library, or office, they create a relaxing and inspiring atmosphere.
Reproductions inspired by neoclassical art enhance the space and evoke the cultural greatness of past eras and civilizations that have left a lasting legacy in history.
Decorating with works of art serves to bring beauty not only to our home, but also to the soul, which is enriched by their deep meaning.
