Recreation of Venus or Aphrodite de’ Medici, (Royal Gallery of Florence, 2nd century BCE) based on the original piece, a Hellenistic marble sculpture at life size representing the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite. It is a marble copy from the 1st century BCE, possibly made in Athens from an original Greek bronze, following the model of the Aphrodite of Cnidus, which would have been created by a sculptor in the tradition of Praxiteles.
The goddess Venus, known as Aphrodite in Greek mythology, personifies love, beauty, and fertility. Born from the foam of the sea, her mythical origin highlights her connection to creation and life. Aphrodite had lovers among both gods, such as Ares, the god of war, and mortals, such as Adonis. Upon Adonis’s death, she descended to Hades, requesting from Persephone, the queen of the underworld, the return of the young man to the world of the living. She is often accompanied by Cupid and other beings and deities, such as cherubs, nymphs, the Three Graces, or the Horae.
Our favorite outdoor spaces, gardens, and terraces, acquire a special elegance when we incorporate reproductions of classical sculptures and famous works into their decoration, such as this statue of the Venus of Medici. This masterpiece, capturing the grace and serenity of Greek art, adds a timeless touch to our favorite outdoor corners. The figure of Venus imparts a unique sense of splendor and blends with the surrounding vegetation, establishing a fascinating dialogue between art and nature.
By integrating these large classical sculptures into landscape design, we achieve a harmonious synthesis between the beauty of Antiquity and nature, evoking the splendor of classical culture.
