Description

Vitruvian Man. Bas-relief made of molded marble (marble powder bonded with resins). The aging finish is achieved with patinas made from natural earths, giving it the texture and appearance of an ancient sculpture beautified by the passage of time.

Reproductions of sculptures and reliefs, inspired by Renaissance art. Handcrafted in Spain. Ideal for interior decoration (living rooms, lobbies, libraries, and offices). Suitable for outdoor use, terraces, and gardens, resistant to harsh weather conditions.

Measurements: Height: 59 cm. Width: 43 cm. Depth: 2.5 cm.

The bas-relief we offer is a recreation in molded marble of Leonardo da Vinci’s famous drawing “Vitruvian Man”. The original drawing was created around 1490 by Da Vinci at the request of his friend Luca Pacioli for his book on the Divine Proportion. It is a study of the ideal proportions of the human body, based on the architectural texts of Vitruvius, an architect from ancient Rome (c. 70 BCE-15 BCE).

Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) is one of the greatest geniuses of all time. A symbol of the Renaissance man, his insatiable curiosity led him to explore a wide range of disciplines, from painting and sculpture to engineering. In addition to his artistic talent, manifested in works such as The Last Supper or the Mona Lisa, Leonardo conducted studies in a wide range of scientific and technical disciplines, including anatomy and medicine, optics, astronomy, botany, geology, and zoology, mathematics and geometry, hydrodynamics, mechanics, and civil engineering, anticipating his time with inventions such as the helicopter, the automobile, the submarine, or the tank.

His notebooks and journals, written using mirror writing, are filled with drawings and ideas, such as the famous Vitruvian Man, through which his inquisitive and visionary mind is revealed. Leonardo da Vinci embodies the humanistic ideal of the fusion between art and science. His life and work are an eternal testimony to the capacity of human beings to imagine, investigate and create.
