Egyptian scribe. Cube statue. Egypt, new Empire the cube statues appeared in Egypt during the ancient Empire and had a considerable apogee during the new empire. They consist of a cube, covered with hieroglyphic inscriptions, of which only the head protrudes. The depicted character is seated with his legs folded on his chest, elbows resting on his knees and hands crossed. This way of doing confers to the man a respectful attitude, hieratic and of maximum concentration. His body has been shaped by a block of stone from which emerges the head, image of the consciousness always alive, as the sun emerges on the horizon.
